Hand-drawn graphite on original old tan art paper then the artist used a Watercolor ONE OF A KIND. Signed (F Follmer) by the late former Disney artist. Frank Follmer This watercolor is much more colorful in person. The Condition is EX, TO MINT 18″ by 12″ SEE PICTURES. This is a’TRUE WATERCOLOR 1 of 1′ which will only increase in value. Frank Follmer, an immensely talented artist who had drawn profusely in the sports section of the San Francisco Chronicle, was hired by the Disney Studios in early 1937. Almost immediately he was thrust into the production of Snow White, drawing many of the exterior and interior shots of the Cottage Dwarfs Witch utilized in the film. Frank worked closely with Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas and was further a prolific artistic talent on Pinnochio and Fantasia. Frank Follmer drew key ingredients in the Snow White feature, including the Cottage, Snow White at the wishing well and the huntsman begging Snow Whites forgiveness Witch as well as most of the interior and exterior shots of the dwarfs and the cottage. Despite being one of the hundreds who went on strike against Disney in 1941 and later’laid off’ in 1942 (Disney terminated virtually every member of the studio who had gone on strike), Follmer remained close friends with both Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas, amongst many others, until his death in 2000. SECOND NOTATION: The’old archives records’ of Disney showing Follmer only being employed until 1940 are clearly wrong, as noted in innumerable other records. Follmer was one of the’strike leaders’ from his dept. At Disney and the’strike’ did not occur until 1941, when it was finally settled by a Federal Mediator in Disney’s absence Walt was on a tour of S. America at US Government invitation. Follmer remained employed at Disney for some months after the strike until he, like so many others (employment dropped from approximately 1,200 to 694) were’laid off’ officially. Many of those let go read like a’Who’s Who’ in animation history due to their successful future projects (see Wikipedia on the great Disney Strike for a partial, but large, list). The Disney Archives are to be rightfully regarded, sans exact employment dates, as proof of Follmer’s employment at the Disney Studio.
